Confirm the process requirement first
Before comparing price, confirm whether the used tension leveling line matches your material type, strip width, thickness range, flatness requirement, surface sensitivity and production speed. A line that works for one stainless steel or carbon steel application may not fit another buyer's strip tension and surface requirement.
Check the supplied scope and machine layout
Confirm whether the equipment includes uncoiler, entry guide, entry S-rolls, leveling section, tension control, exit S-rolls, cleaning or auxiliary sections, recoiler, hydraulic station, electrical cabinet, spare rolls and drawings. A low-price used line can become expensive if key sections or control parts are missing.
Inspect entry and exit S-roll condition
S-rolls are critical for strip tension stability. Check S-roll diameter, face width, roll surface condition, motor power, reducer condition, bearings, coupling, brake and whether the roll surface has scratches, dents or uneven wear. Poor S-roll condition may cause unstable tension or surface defects.
Review leveling rolls and adjustment mechanism
Inspect leveling roll surface, roll diameter, bearing condition, backup support, adjustment mechanism, lubrication and visible wear. For used strip leveling equipment, roll surface condition and alignment are more important than appearance paint. Ask whether the line can demonstrate flatness improvement in a running video.
Evaluate hydraulic and tension control systems
Confirm hydraulic station condition, oil leakage, pressure stability, cylinders, valves, tension feedback, sensors and whether the machine has stable entry and exit tension control. If the hydraulic or feedback system is incomplete, plan refurbishment before installation.
Check electrical cabinet and drive system
Ask for PLC, HMI, inverter or DC drive condition, motor list, wiring label status, electrical drawings and cabinet completeness. Older used leveling lines often need electrical upgrades even if the mechanical sections are usable.
Ask for a useful running video
A useful video should show strip feeding, entry S-roll movement, leveling section, exit S-roll movement, recoiling, speed stability and any visible vibration or noise. If the line is already dismantled, ask for previous running video, detailed photos and a complete parts inventory.
Prepare inspection questions before inquiry
Send your material, thickness range, strip width, coil weight, target flatness, surface requirement, destination country and whether you need dismantling or installation support. Then ask the seller to confirm current running status, included parts, known issues, inspection access and refurbishment options.
Need help reviewing a used tension leveling line?
Send machine photos, running video, target material, strip width, thickness range, flatness requirement and destination country. Coilmill can help review equipment fit, inspection points, refurbishment needs and shipping support.
